School holidays

 

Hi Natty!  How are you today, Honey?  I hope you are well and everything is going smoothly for you.  I'm doing OK, it's been a busy day.  I cleaned my mother's bedroom in the morning as usual on Sunday, then in the evening I went out and bought a few groceries.  It sounds like nothing, but my day was packed.  I still have to do dishes from dinner, it was spaghetti again.  Oh no, my basil is dying.  I only got to harvest it twice, what did I do wrong?  I'm going to have to replant it, meaning less spaghetti.  At least with the home made sauce.  I still have a couple of jars of the generic supermarket stuff.

It's the school holidays right now, so there a a few extra kids in town.  They have 3 weeks off, then start school again in January.  After that, they have a little bit left of the term to go through before the school year ends in March, I think.  The end of the school year used to be December, then the Covid happened.  It looks like the kids got bumped back 3 months, but the Covid scare was 2 years, right?  I'm pretty sure the schools got shut down longer than 3 months.  I don't know.  I'm neither a student nor a teacher.

Sundays are supposed to be black for Mary's avatar, but I forgot again.  I guess it's going to be Black Mondoy tomorrow.  Mary's outfit is:

Hi Natty!  How are you, Honey?  Do you love me?  I love you!  I hope you are having an awesome time over there, and keeping yourself safe and healthy.  It must be cold, so bundle up.  It's a cold day here today, but I prefer this over the tropical heat so alhamdulillah.  I'm munching on curry pups right now.  Want one?  With extra creamy filling!  Ugh, those sardines rolls last night gave me heartburn.  It's been a long time since I last had heartburn, years perhaps.  I forgot what it's like, I don't miss it that's for sure.  Dammit, those sardine rolls were really tasty though!  I think putting my hot chilli oil in there was the problem.

Hi Natty!  How are you today, Honey?  I hope you are enjoying your position as Rock and Roll Babe.  You are MY girl, and I love you with all of my heart.  I am sitting here, writing a letter to my Sweetie, and munching on a sardine roll.  These turned out quite well, alhamdulillah.  My Mom said that my dough is hard.  I suppose it is kind of chewy, and it's probably not good for making donuts.  I don't eat donuts very often anyway.  Sugar.

Midnight.  I usually go to bed at midnight, and I was well on my way to falling asleep.  Then a cat started howling right outside my bedroom window.  It sounded like it was about to get into a fight, and so it was another cat joined in with the verbal threats a few minutes later.  It sounded like Adolf Kitler, but he was inside the house.  He once smashed through a window in pursuit of another cat some time ago, but I had since barricaded the hole with a plank and a hard folder.  I didn't think that Adolf would be able to get through the barricade and I was about to fall asleep anyway, so I didn't get out of bed.  Then the fight broke out, it was only a few seconds long, then everything got quiet.  When I got up at 4 am, Adolf wasn't present for his breakfast.  So that was him outside, but the barricade was intact and no other windows were broken.  Could it be that I have a supernatural cat?  No that's not logical, the barricade wasn't strong enough, that's the simplest answer.  So I strengthened the barricade, and hoped that he would come home in the morning.  So he did, he was waiting for me when I went outside at daybreak.  Adolf is a strong cat, but traffic is stronger.  Ya Allah, thank You for returning my cat.  I haven't seen any other cat outside since, they must be terrified that Adolf would show up out of nowhere.  He is very strong, and no other cat can match his power.  You can see in the photo, his waiting for another cat to beat up.

The aging workforce

 

Hi Natty!  What's going on, Honey?  I'm sure you are keeping busy, so please make sure you guard your health and safety.  Have tons of fun OK!  Whew!  It's been a tiring day.  But interesting.  I made a musical discovery and I wanted to pursue it but alas, I need to rest and feed myself.  Patience.

I like watching videos about busy restaurant kitchens, because it keeps me humble.  So far, I can mostly find the Japanese release such videos.  I saw a 4 minute video of the kitchen of a "busy" 3 Michelin star French restaurant.  It was ridiculous.  The place was sparkling clean, and only 2 dishes were being made, both the same.  There was one guy painting sauce on a place, one guy putting fruit, one girl putting garnish etc.  With so much staff they must charge an arm and a leg per plate, which was just a few slices of pig over sauce and veggies/fruit.  I find the video above breathtaking not because of the size of the portions, but because of how old the staff is.  The owner said that the average age of the staff there was 71 years old.  And they were busting their asses too at that age, you can clearly see that those were real patrons not a setup.  You can also see how messed up the kitchen gets, you can see 50 years of wear and tear on the walls and floor.  What you don't see is the full amount of prep needed and the cleanup after the rush.  These people have my pity and respect.  I'm so grateful to be out of the restaurant business.  Alhamdulillah.  Thus the people preparing our food is an aging workforce.  The younger generation wants to do tech, but you can't eat tech.  The other extreme is just as bad.  Do you know about Pol Pot and his agrarian society, and what happened there?  I guess no one wants to do labor anymore, but would you want robots to prepare our food?
