Soy

Hi Natty honey!  How are you feeling today?  I hope you are feeling good...  Please don't be sad, because I love you and care for you.  How about you watch a movie?  The computer wants you to watch a movie today.  "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006).  I'll admit that's it's not much of a distraction, but it is a good movie.  Lots of beautiful shoes in this movie!

My food project for this month is to conquer the legume, specifically lentils, red beans and soybeans.  Because beans are cheap!  I had soaked half a kilo of soybeans yesterday, and they bloated quite nicely.  I wanted to try making tofu and soybean milk.  I didn't get much tofu from half gallon of soy milk that I had.  It didn't harden up too well, either.  It tasted like tofu, but it was a tofu pudding.  Perhaps I used the wrong lecithin.  The label didn't say magnesium chloride, so perhaps that was the problem.  My soy milk turned out gritty.   My strainer wasn't fine enough, I needed cheesecloth.  What I had left was a lot of soy meal.  I had never cooked with soy meal before, but I do know that it's supposed to be healthy food.  Cattle eat it.  So what could go wrong with soy meal, garlic, onion and salt?  I fried it up and it tasted good, but it disintegrated.  I guess I need to add flour.  How do they make veggie burgers and soy cheese?  I need to study that, they must add some real flavoring somehow.  Anyway, my stomach didn't like it.  Health food.  Back to the old drawing board.  I still have a lot of soy meal left.  The good news is I didn't spend a cent today!
