How's it going today?

I hope you are taking sweet loving care of yourself, and please don't forget to pray.  There's nothing out of the ordinary going on here for me.  I'm at the end of my data cap, so I can't spend too much time a the disco.  Food budget still sucks, so I'm eating the same thing everyday.  Ya Allah, please help me sell some mango trees!  For some reason, poor man's food is healthier for me.  More grains, less experimentation, less fat.

And a good year to you too, Erin.  Incidentally, the Muslim New Year (called Awal Muharam) was on Sunday October 2.  I don't know much about Jewish rituals.  I had to Google it up.

Nat Sweetie, I don't want you to feel slighted because I haven't given you a dowry yet so we don't any anniversaries, be it not a dowry of music.  I must have a first wife before I can put down a dowry for a second wife, and right now I can't afford any wife.  That's why I gave Erin a dowry of music, but I'm not doing that anymore because people get too fanatical about music.  When the time comes for a formal proposal inshaAllah, you will get a ring for a dowry.  And the song I posted wasn't really a gift to her, it was a gift to everybody on the occasion of our anniversary of my proposal to her.  I do want to marry you and I am faithful, InshaAllah.  Right now, it's just a matter of money.

Dinner was steak and pan-fried hummus.  Pan frying brings out the nutty flavor of the hummus, though it dries up a little.

Hummus

Hi Horsey!  Hey Nat!  As you know, my Batty-Watty Bat Cat sustained himself an injury recently, so I had to keep him cooped up in a cage, which is basically the area which I store my motorcycle and other stuff.  Lately he's improved greatly, but since I didn't diagnose him correctly, I was reluctant to release him even though he's been bugging me to do so.  So last night while I was sleeping, he turned on the faucet and let the water run all night.  Yes, he can do that.  OK Batty.  Go back to your cat business.  Go and wallow in the mud, and dig up dirty secrets, or whatever it is you do out there.

I steamed up a plate of my home made hummus, and it was a resounding success!  Alhamdulillah!  I was going to fry up some eggs, or flat bread, or steak to go with it, but it tasted great just by itself so I wolfed it all down.  One would think that hummus would be easy on the teeth, but for some reason one of my teeth is sensitive to it.  Must be the natural sugar, I suppose

Lentils vs chick peas

Erin, what's the price for a plate of hummus in NYC nowadays?  I've had the craving for hummus lately, and I figured it shouldn't cost too much to make from scratch.  What is hummus, anyway?  Blended and strained chick peas, right?  It was either hummus or chili again, and I'm kind of chili'ed out.  So I went to the supermarket, and perused their collection of legumes in the cooler.  Hm.  A kilo of chick peas is RM8, while a kilo of lentils is RM3.  Are you able to taste the difference between chick peas and lentils?   When steamed they both have the same taste and texture, right?  So I decided to make my hummus out of lentils.  The evening was hot, and I was lazy as usual.  So I used the heat as an excuse not to do any yard work, and stayed in the kitchen to make hummus.  It turned out awesome, and the color was white!   I pan fried a little to test the flavor.  Frying browns the beans, but it's quicker than steaming.  It tasted awesome.  And the scent left in the kitchen was heavenly.  A success!  Alhamdulillah.  Tomorrow I'll make a plate of steamed hummus inshaAllah, and photograph it for you, assuming I don't screw it up and it turns out photogenic.

Nat, you beautiful little creature!  That's such a cute photo of your prancing around by the Louvre!  You and your Mom must be touristing it up in Paris.  Please be safe, but have tons of fun!  Your being in Paris Fashion Week means that there will be video of you on YouTube.  Antoine Mangenot always videos the models leaving the Paris Fashion Week shows, so make sure you ham it up for the camera, because I'm going to put it on my TV station.
