Varmints in the attic

Hi Natty!  How are you feeling today?  Are you excited?  Are you?  Rock and Roll business is the craziest work out there, it is constantly crazy.  People long for the life of a rock star, otherwise why would they bother getting jealous?  But it's insane, they just don't know...  Now don't you worry so much, Natty.  Things are going to be great for us inshaAllah.  You have lots of fun, OK?  Keep safe, but have fun.  All you have to do is be beautiful, and you ARE beautiful, and I love you.  Don't take what people say so seriously.  Yes I know you are an expert in sociology, but don't take gossip seriously.  Ignore it.  So what if they label you?  You are my Rock and Roll Princess.  That's your only label.  Gossip is just part of the business.

I have a slide show of you on my desktop, and one of the house geckos made a stain on it.  So this morning I had to scrub it out with alcohol, because there would be a stain on your beautiful face.  What a bunch of varmints on the ceiling.  Now I also have some civet cats stomping around in the attic like they were having a dance party.  They probably got into the attic from the starfruit tree at the back of my house, so I'm going to have to chop that down.  These critters may be above my head, but they're just a bunch of varmints.  "The Hills Have Eyes 2", I suppose.  No, I haven't seen that movie.  No, you don't have to watch it.  I hear it's a mediocre movie.

Hi Natty!

How are you, my darling?  How's the airplane food?  Try the steak and potatoes.  With broccoli!  And a freshly baked bun, with real butter!  Sorry I'm running late today, I just got back from the mosque.  It is Tuesday, and I always try to be there to listen to the elderly Qur'an teacher speak.  Nothing as exciting as airline food for me here.  I had a busy morning running errands, so lunch was eggs and beans.  An English breakfast!  I only have 2 meals a day, so that was both breakfast and lunch for me.  Dinner was more luxurious, tortillas with burgers and fried onions.  I was pressed for time because I had to be at the mosque by sunset, and dinner isn't just about eating food, it's about time to cook, time to eat, and time to tidy up the kitchen.  And by that time, it's time sprint out the door.  Good thing it wasn't rice.  Rice dinners are usually very labor intensive and time consuming both to cook and to eat.  And to clean up.  The locals are hooked on it, though.  I would rather have steak and potatoes.  Anyway, I have to go choose my outfit for tomorrow's set.  You take care my love, and have tons of fun being a supermodel.  Please pray!

Stuffed won tons

Hi Natty!  How's it going today?  Oh, you can't stop the rain?  And you're still not ready yet?  Just go with the flow, my love.  You'll cope just great inshaAllah.  Feel free to talk to me anytime, I will answer you.  That is an advantage you have over everyone else, you can talk to me and I will answer you.  InshaAllah.  You're my girl, and I love you.

It's almost the Chinese New Year here, which means that tourist season is coming up.  People will be coming all the way from China, and it's already beginning to get congested here in this village.  Next weekend I'll have to turn up, I guess.  My Mom gave me some won ton skins, so I fried up some stuffed won tons.  This is one of my favorite foods, but the cooking is oh so tedious.  I wish I could just eat it without having to cook it, but alhamdulillah.  The ingredients for the stuffing are:
1.  fresh tofu
2.  fish balls or fish cake
3.  garlic
4.  young kaffir lime leaves
5.  black pepper
No salt!  Don't put any salt in the stuffing.  The salt should come from the dipping sauce you use, in my case today I used bottled hot sauce.  All the ingredients must be chopped up and mixed, the lime leaves can be julienned finely.  The won tons must be stuffed immediately before frying- don't stuff the won tons and let them sit overnight, or they will melt into a nasty mess.  Fry in CLEAN cooking oil, using a large spoon to spoon hot oil over the won tons so they fry evenly.

Friends

Hi Natty!  Are feeling excited and confident today?  I hope you are having tons of fun being you and doing what you.  You are my Rock and Roll Princess!  And I love you, I long to be with you and make love to you.  But right now, you have lots of friends because of how popular and beautiful you are, so enjoy your position.  Do me a favor though, and try to make some Muslim friends.  I'm sure you don't come across many Muslim models, but try to make some Muslim friends.  We are people too, and part of this world.

Yeah, I know I don't have any friends.  But the music has so many friends, countless even, who would do anything for the music.  But I am a servant of Allah, and have been given guardianship of this music by Allah, so I cannot be part of them.  Perhaps there would be other musicians who are Muslim who would understand my position, but right now it seems I am the only one.  Of course there are the learned ones, who would most likely outclass me in book knowledge, and distort the music and my decisions thereof, so again I'm on my own.  I suppose it would be awkward, what with my being a chick singer and all that, but I'm a recluse by nature so that doesn't bother me at all.  That's why it's best that I have wives instead of friends.  And if Allah is my friend, Allah is all I need.

The farmer

Hi Natty!  How are you today?  I hope you are feeling and doing great.  I want you to not worry about a thing, because things will turn out just great for us inshaAllah.  Yeah it's true that there are a lot of "little girls lost" out there, but you are not one of them.  I found you, so you are MY girl.  So please be patient, have faith and pray.

I suddenly got the urge to grow my own produce.  Yeah I had some seeds in my cooler, so I planted them in pots, because there were some pots with soil left over from the roses.  So I started up some tomatoes and cilantro.  They sprouted quickly, unused seeds keep quite well in the cooler.  The cilantro should do OK, but tomatoes usually get overwhelmed by tiny moths which plague the underside of the leaves.  Since tomato leaves are fuzzy, the fuzziness provides insulation from bug spray.  Not that I expect to do better this time, but I am prepared to be more militant in fighting off the bugs.  InshaAllah.  I don't have much fortune when it comes to growing crops.  Most of what grows around here, I don't eat.  And as you all have observed, my mango farming was plagued with political pests.  But I dug up some holes in the yard, and used the soil I used on the mangoes to plant some okra and eggplant.  The soil in my yard is rocky, so tomatoes don't fare well but it should be OK for okra and eggplant.  I'm growing the seeds directly into the soil this time instead of transferring them from seedlings, then policing them from weeds from the earliest stage.  If the seed isn't fertile, then I'll just keep on planting another seed until I come up with a strong seedling.  InshaAllah, this will work great.
